We all dream about a trip far in the country where we enjoy our time with the family. Whether the inspiration is from the wagon trains of the Wild West, films of coast to coast beach trips, the idea of living in the wild takes place in everyones fantasies. Going on a trip and staying in RV parks is the best way to go. As one who even used to look for creative ways to bypass the heavy RVs I always had a deep fantasy of driving one myself. Another fantasy of mine was to journey the US and these two dreams got fulfilled in the end during February this year. The study about the possibilities of renting an RV, as well as general information about camping I did of course over the internet.
One of the most important tips to I got is to “go big”, that is to rent an RV that has the fullest potential and not vice versa. Although a bigger RV is more expensive and more complicated to drive at the beginning of our trip we’ve found that the fun is worth every penny, and we saw what we were also forced to compromise with if we had chosen the cheaper ones.
Inside The RV
Our RV seemed huge on first sight, and what makes it worth while is the amount of thought put into the RV interior design. Hoe things are organized inside, how the bathroom and toilet run, how well the gas and water is. Of course dont forget to check out the actual moving capacity inside the RV. Since the space is limited every cm should be carefully planned, and every mistake can be very disturbing. The rented RV comes with all the equipment necessary for a personal camping trip: bedding and blankets, towels, cooking tools, cutlery and dishes.
The RV Park
The first interaction with our RV Park was simple and pleasant: The receptionist was very nice and welcoming. We were given a map of the parking lot that described where our parking spot was as well as the keys to the toilet and shower. Next to each RV is an infrastructure of water, drainage and electricity. Soon enough we found that the RV Park had a pool, Jacuzzi, game room, television room, luxurious cooking corners, wireless internet communication and broad grass lawns. In general, our most interesting discovery, as RVers was that one of the more enjoyable experiences we had on the trip was the time spent in the RV Park and the interaction with other campers.
The Traveling Hotel
An RV family vacation is different than any other family trip, and one of its tremendous advantages is the family connection. There are other advantages like: you can drive in your PJs or the fact that the kids come strait to dinner when you call them (all they have to do is come down from their beds) Unlike hotels, with an RV you do not have to pack suitcases and discharge them when passing from place to place, you do not have to figure out where and when to stop for a meal and you get to almost any area “without leave your house”. It is highly recommended to have folding chairs for sitting outside the RV, because unlike hotels you very quickly make new friends in RV parks. During our entire camping experience not once did we meet someone that did not greet us with a warm welcome?
One of the questions we were asked after returning from our trip was: “how did you survive living in such a small space without constant arguments and fighting?” The truth is we had to take some time to understand the question. Among all types of vacations that we know, not one had come as close as the RV vacation to the amount of fun, consolidation and experiential we had.
